Without health, people do not have the energy to learn. Without learning, people cannot have aspirations. Without aspirations, people will not demand the products that only businesses can provide. And, without responsible interventions into the lives of the most at risk, there is no hope for meaningful social change and economic growth. More than a billion people live at the bottom of the pyramid, without access to the basic services and products that the rich take for granted. They are poor in knowledge and in opportunity, but their aspirations and combined purchasing power are vast. Whythawk’s purpose is to quantify these aspirations, and the existing capacity to meet these aspirations, allowing investors greater information in order to make financial decisions.
Whythawk first acts to assist companies to understand the informal sector and the way in which the markets work, collective investment vehicles are used to aggregate costs, and the way in which products need to be offered so as to be most acceptable to the poor. Then Whythawk offers specific support in rating the risk of the trust relationships between the investor and the informal market actors necessary for the success of any new investment. Corporate social investments should also be seen as opportunities to gain experience in emerging markets and learn about new products and services aimed at the fortune at the bottom of the pyramid. Whythawk generates meaningful feedback by rating social development organisations in terms of accountability and effectiveness, and presenting the agencies' specific future funding requirements. A Whythawk rating is an opinion on an organisation's future performance. Whythawk’s goal is to provide ratings that embody high-quality and impartial delivery analysis. Whythawk evaluates weaknesses as well as strengths to determine the organisation's ability and willingness to deliver on the needs identified within their target sector. Whythawk does not charge the organisations we rate. This ensures that we are entirely impartial in our ratings assessment. All parties to a rating can be sure of our complete objectivity.
